How does biofeedback work with Autism?
How does biofeedback work with Autism? Many things have changed lately in the world of Autism. We still don’t know exactly what causes it, we just know how it manifest itself. Research has shown us that 1 in 54 children are diagnosed with ASD. This is a huge enormous number of children with ASD, and unfortunately, not all of them get the treatment they need. There are many tests for diagnosing it, but not many ways to treat it. We, at Quantum Medical are trying to change that with biofeedback therapies done with the help of our devices.
Our goal is to help ASD patients control themselves through brainwave training. We can lower their stress level thus increase their social interaction and communication skills. Since autism affects many parts of the brain we do brainwave training on the entire brain. They are faced with withdrawal symptoms, due to high sensory reactions, loud noises, pain when being touched. They are overwhelmed by the defect in their sensory system. This again is addressed through the brainwave training.
The first step in biofeedback is to use diagnostic testing that determines the patient’s level of brain activity. Biofeedback tests include quantitive EEG, neuropsychological and psychological testing.
These tests will help understand the underlying causes of many disorders and conditions and provide a comprehensive picture of the patient’s strengths and weaknesses in brain functionality.
Data provided by these tests are used in biofeedback treatments such as neuro-therapy, psychological interventions, substance abuse and pain treatments. How does the ED.X biofeedback technology help children with ASD? Biofeedback has been shown to help children on the autism spectrum improve their social skills in different ways, such as making eye contact and communicating their wants and needs.
It has even helped some of these children with academic performance at school.
The neurotherapy treatment, has been especially effective.
Some of the improvements that families have noted include:
• Less emotional outbursts
• Ability to tolerate changes better
• Reduced anxiety
• Initiating both contact and touch
• More appropriate responses to parents and teacher requests
• Clearer speech patterns
• Improved ability to focus
• Increased socialization skills
ED.X Special Super-learning and attention deficit programs help children with autism and their families by improving their overall quality of life in a non-invasive way. Unlike medication, which typically can only provide temporary benefits, biofeedback provides a long term solution by re-training the brain to develop new patterns and habits that are sustainable on the long run.
